It has been quite humorous to have a mule with Sea access, but not sky. But the time finally came. After renewing my Campaign Medal (which has been inactive for months) and campaigning my way for a few hours, I decided that I would like to hit sky for a bit.
I took Thor (on MNK) and Tram out to Quicksand Caves to duo-box the Pot NM. I usually plan on dying for my first attempt on things like this so I can figure out what I need to do for a win. Things were going quite smoothly until 50% and I made the mistake of changing plans mid battle. I wanted to try out a charge on my Counter Earring for some kicks. While equipping it and waiting for the cool-down timer I missed shadows for a few attacks and then got hit wit a Firaga III.
Things went from ‘too easy’ to 50 HP in what seemed like a second. Never to fear! Tram was here! When I hit Tram’s Cure V macro, I experienced an Onosecond – that point in time when the universe stops and you realize ‘Oh No! I should not have done that!’… The Cure V was targeting Tram >.<
After the rasies, I almost made a really bad situation when I miss-timed my smoke break and came back to the living room just in time to see Thor’s HP hitting double digits from the worm that re-popped right next to where we were AFK. Was easy to take him back out, but with no RR on Tram, it could have been very annoying.
The second fight was pretty anti-climactic. Opening with a Weapon Skill then Hundred Fists while Tram tossed out a few cures and then Benediction so that I would not have to cast shadows during my 2hr. Then the pot started casting some Ancient Magic and was near dead by the time the spell went off.
Once we hit sky, I grabbed a few Flamingo to get some skill-ups for Tram’s Club and on the third mob, a key dropped. That pretty much decided what the next step was. Grabbed a coffer on the way inside and then fought some weapons. Took less than an hour to get an inside key and coffer so now Tram is set with both maps. And picked up a Curtana since I was there.
To top off the festivities, we ran over to The Celestial Nexus and hammered down a few Aura Statues. If the nice chunk of 270-300 XP for each character per mob (up to 450XP with Empress Band) and the slim chance at a Diorite were not enough, seeing the 0.5 guard skillup made it definately worth the time.
